Hey, it's okay...

So, today anything went. I was parenting two small kids by myself, running on less than an hours sleep due to hearing that my grandmother had passed away, and trying to get all the lose ends wrapped up before leaving for ATL. So, when my child consumed the following for lunch (while I was running around cooking all the meat I picked up this week on sale at the grocery store so that it won't go bad before we return!):

-Goldfish
-Colby Monterrey Jack Cheese slices
-A package of Chick-fil-A croutons he rummaged out of the pantry
-And a handful of Lucky Charms

I gave myself a pass. I told myself that today it was okay. I also told myself that it was fine to let him watch The Little Mermaid and Cinderella for the 1,001 time because they are his current movie obsession. Thank heavens it wasn't the Disney Vacation Planning DVD although if he'd asked for it I would have let him because I was trying to juggle so much.

Here's hoping that tomorrow's lunch is better and that I can get some sleep tonight...

"Hey, It's Okay..." AG edition.

A little AG humor for you from the last few weeks...

Hey, It's Okay...

-If your child asks for a piece of the high life one night while watching the Braves. Yep, he asked for it. Andy died laughing and I kept saying "seriously!?!" a la Meredith Grey that my toddler just asked for a piece of the high life. (Sigh.) Humorous, yes. But probably not the best thing to say to other kids on the playground!

-If your child says to himself, "whew! That was close!" After receiving a warning because of his behavior.

-If your child wears 3D Harry Potter Glasses EVERYWHERE thus giving his mom a new weekly post..."Where in the world is Ron Potter?!?"

-If your child replicates Turner Field EVERYTIME he plays baseball by setting up a "Moo Cow" aka a CFA Cow, a Coke Bottle aka his sippy cup, and his "Chop" aka a foam letter T from the bathtub ABCs that he uses for a tomahawk. And to set the ambience he plays songs that can be heard at the stadium along with the chant.

-If your child asks to go to HePo aka Home Depot with "his Daddy" so that he can get out of the house.

-If your child carries around your old PINK Motorolla Razr flip phone and has conversations that go a little something like this... "AG watch puppies. (AKA 101 Dalmations.) Pause. Eat pa'corn. Pause. Hit homerun. Hold on..."

-If your child hates to be the barer of bad news..."Bad news!" "What's bad news buddy?" "Trash is bad news." (As garbage man rolls down the street.)

Never a dull moment! Literally. On a more serious note the inspiration for my "Hey, It's Okay..."posts come from a blog that I read about the Needham family. If you have time hop over and read about them and if you think about it say a prayer for sweet Piper, her parents, and big sister Linley. Piper has leukemia and has just recently relapsed. They are doing everything that they can to save her life. Recently, Sus posted the following:

"I don't plan to dwell on the "whys" or "hows" or "what ifs" because frankly, that steals from my living with what I have now...two sweet girls, a husband and a God who gave this all to me. I'm learning quickly that a blessing isn't always a perfect gift or the answer to something you may think you want. Sometimes its just the knowledge that you're still here and still breathing despite having the wind knocked out of your sails.

Praise God. "

And this

"While I have no idea what happens in the future, I still stand firm on the knowledge that God is sovereign and that He has a plan. I fear the prayers I am sending up are not filled with faith but rather with pleading but I rejoice that He knows my heart, my girls and my life. At this moment, sobbing at the computer with strangers around I feel much like a tree that has been beaten by the weather. I may look to be bent over, I may be weathered to a indescript gray but I am still rooted in the soil that give me sustenance.

Of this I am certain, God is still good."

I've been chewing on these words the last two weeks or so, daily, as I pray for Piper. There's not much I can say after that...

Hey, it's okay...

Here's some moments so far...

--to be at Disney World and realize that you are not super woman and you really do need antibiotics...no wonder I haven't felt a hundred percent I've been battling a double ear infection and a sinus infection.

--to let your child be Linus for a night and take his blankie with him. AG's never taken his blankie anywhere but after having a fever all day he insisted we take it with us last night while we got out of the condo. We said if it makes you happy...

--to ride Winnie-the-Pooh more than any other ride so far on this trip because it's clearly your toddler's favorite ride at the moment.

--to let your child eat and drink whatever he wants because he's been battling a nasty cold for a week now and your desperate to keep anything in him. We'll try to get back to being more well rounded and balanced once we nip this...

"Hey, it's okay..."

Being the blogger that I am I'm totally addicted to reading other peoples blogs and keeping up with their own lives. One of the blogs I follow is about a family in Athens. The main purpose of their blog is to keep people updated on their youngest's, Piper, battle with cancer. However, the wife, Sus, in her sweet humor makes me laugh each week with her new series, "Hey, it's okay..." because I can totally relate. Stuff happens on a daily basis and sometimes I have to laugh because how else do we deal with life's ups and downs but with grace and a little humor. If you feel like following the Needham's here you go.

And here's to my first "Hey, it's okay..." post.

--to give your toddler a side of Goldfish with his pancakes for breakfast because it's only 9am on a Wednesday. And inevitably there is bound to be bigger fish to fry as your day progresses.

--to hold off on weaning AG from his paci because he's a bear who gnaws when he teethes. We've discovered that if we don't give him his paci as of late that he gnaws on his wrist and or four fingers like they are a drumstick. So rather than have a raw red arm we opt for a paci as AG cuts his incisors. The goal is to be done with it by his 2nd birthday.

--to let my toddler go to bed around 8:30ish because his parents, the night owls, enjoy the fact that he sleeps till 9 or later most mornings.

--to have apps on your iPhone specifically to entertain your child while you try and enjoy a meal in a restaurant. And hey, without a little help from Peek-a-boo Barn and Peek-a-boo Wild we wouldn't know all our barnyard and safari friends with their corresponding noises.

--to contemplate asking Santa for a "laptop" that's for kids ages 4 and up for your not yet two year old with the slight hope that he might leave yours alone...even if it's just for a little bit and he's really tech savvy.

--to let your child be Buzz Lightyear for Halloween even though you feel it's cliche to go as something trendy and you'd rather do something classic. But Buzz is who he's in to these days and we are going to run with it...at this point it's highly possible we'll be celebrating our 2nd birthday with Buzz. And I'm okay with that. Really. :o)

--that some days it's all you can do to get dinner (from the freezer) on the table because it was one of those days and you weren't able to shower, get out of the house, or put real clothes on that day.
